Starting a Vegetable Garden

At our new house in the back yard there is a 20'x35' garden area and we decided that we are going to give it a try. So with the help of our dear friends John and Abby we are going to hopefully have a fresh array of vegetables from our own planting and hard work. I am excited about this idea but I don't really know what I am doing so this might not turn out the way I hope.

Abby and I started the process by weeding all the tall flowers and grass that had taken over the area and then Jason did the tiller that our neighbor let us borrow. It was back breaking work having to be bent over and pulling out stubborn weeds but after three hours of dilligence we got the job done.

We went and picked up a fence to keep rabbits and the dogs out and most of our seed packets this weekend. It is still a little to cold at night to put most of the seeds in the ground yet so we are waiting a couple of weeks to really get going.

I am glad that I have this opportunity to learn a self-reliance skill like this with my husband and friends. The prophets have told us of the importance of this and I am thankful for their wisdom and know that like any thing that is hard work it is worth sticking with it.

Hughesville, PA - New House

So we are all moved into the new house and just about everything is unpacked. The moving was not very difficult but I forgot how stressful it is to pack everything up, load it in trucks, drive to new house, unload trucks, and unpack everthing you just a couple of days put into the boxes. Plus we moved from a fully furnished house to a house that we are furnishing ourselves and the more settled we have gotten the more we realize how much stuff we still need. I like shopping though and since we have working on the road the last three and a half years we have been using other people's stuff so it is nice to have things that we picked out for us.

We love our new couch and chair that we got at Sam's Club and every chance that we get we are eager to just relax on them.

We decided that we could go without a dresser so everthing is going to be hung up in our closets except for the small personals, etc., will be in the plastic storage shelfs you can get at WalMart. When we packed up our closets we realized that we have a rather large amount of hangers and couldn't believe the giant bag that we filled with them. Since getting here in Hughesville and putting away our clothes we found out that we need more hangers to put everything away! Can't believe it but we do. So my clothes are the only thing not put away yet.

Oh, I almost forgot to say a big big thank you to John and Abby for all their help with the move. They made it so much better and Jason and I would have been even more exhausted with out their help. So Thank You guys for being great friends!!
